AI use: one in five companies
KfW reported on 11 February 2026 that around 20% of mid-sized companies used AI in the years 2022 to 2024. Larger, internationally active and innovative companies use AI more often.
Important for context: this covers a period up to 2024, not a measurement from September 2026.
Digitalisation: fewer completed projects
According to the KfW Digitalisation Report, 30% of mid-sized companies completed digitalisation projects in the years 2022 to 2024, compared with 35% in the period 2021 to 2023.
A KfW analysis from July 2026 also shows that simple applications involving language and text are more widespread than demanding analyses.
Investment: restraint in industry
In the DIHK economic survey of early summer 2026, 36% of the industrial companies surveyed say they want to invest less, and 21% want to invest more. Rationalisation and replacement play a bigger role than expansion. The overall survey covers more than 23,000 companies; that is not the number of industrial companies.
What follows from this
The figures do not suggest that every company has money to spare for a large AI platform. They point to projects that start small, disrupt little and have a measurable result: one workflow instead of one programme. This is exactly how the Onagero pilot is built.
The figures are survey and study values for the broad mid-sized sector, not a statement about individual industries or about Onagero.
