Glossary: AI, data and manufacturing, briefly explained

The terms that appear on this website and in every AI project in mid-sized industry, in a sentence or two. Each entry links to the page that covers it in depth.

AI literacy
Under the AI Act, deployers must ensure that their staff have sufficient knowledge for dealing with AI systems, in force since February 2025. Learn more
Analysis copy
A copy of the required data on your server in which columns containing personal data are masked. Tools are built and checked on it. Learn more
Anonymisation
Changing data so that a person can no longer be identified, even with reasonable effort. Anonymous data does not fall under the GDPR. Harder to achieve than often assumed. Learn more
BDE
Betriebsdatenerfassung (shop-floor data capture): recording quantities, times and statuses in manufacturing, for example via terminals at the line. Learn more
CAQ
Computer Aided Quality: software for quality management, such as inspection planning, inspection data and complaints. Learn more
Contribution margin
Revenue minus variable costs, in stages also minus attributable fixed costs. Shows what a customer, item or order contributes to covering the remaining costs. Learn more
Data as-of
The point in time up to which a tool’s data reaches. Onagero shows it above every view. Learn more
Data map
The directory in which Onagero describes your tables, columns, meanings and relationships, including the origin and review status of every column. Learn more
Data processing (Art. 28)
Processing of personal data by a service provider on behalf of the controller. Requires a contract under Art. 28 GDPR. Learn more
Language model
An AI model that understands and generates text. In Onagero it helps build the tools and answer questions; calculations run without a model. Learn more
Lead time
The time from the start to the end of an order, for example from order receipt to shipment. Made up of processing and waiting times. Learn more
Live view
The view of your data from which a released tool reads, with the same shape as the analysis copy, but only to the permitted extent. Learn more
Masking
Technical measure in which names and other attributes in data are left empty, replaced or altered. Reduces risk but does not automatically make data anonymous. Learn more
MES
Manufacturing Execution System: software for controlling and monitoring manufacturing between ERP and machine. Learn more
Model provider
The company that operates the language model. With Onagero the model runs there, not on your server. Learn more
OEE
Overall Equipment Effectiveness: the product of availability, performance and quality. Defined slightly differently in every plant. Learn more
On-premise
Running software on your own servers instead of at the vendor. The term can refer to the platform, the language model or both. Learn more
On-time delivery
Share of deliveries that arrive on the agreed date, under a defined rule for tolerance and partial deliveries. Learn more
Pilot
At Onagero, the start: one real problem with real data, solved in a few weeks and measured against the agreed goal. After that the team keeps building on the same platform. Learn more
Pseudonymisation
Processing after which data can no longer be attributed to a person without separately stored additional information (Art. 4(5) GDPR). Pseudonymised data remains personal data. Learn more
Role
A setting that determines who may see or change a tool and which section of the data it shows for that person. Learn more
Setup time
The time needed to change a machine over from one item to the next, for example during a tool change. Learn more
Test stage
The stage in which a newly built application runs on masked data until a responsible person releases it for production. Learn more
Waiting time
Time during which an order waits between two processing steps. Often the largest, least visible part of the lead time. Learn more
Workflow
A named, recurring process with a responsible person, for example the monthly report for management. Often the starting point for the first solution with Onagero. Learn more
